let’s examine ourselves.
how do we translate the teachings of Christ in our everyday lives? how does our faith affect our thought and behavior? do the words we profess to Christ synchronize with the things we do everyday?
we take part in sunday mass, we affirm our faith in the Blessed Trinity by the creed we profess, we receive the Holy Eucharist as the body and blood of our Redeemer, we praise God in our alleluias whom we see as overflowing with goodness, and we listen constantly to His word for enlightenment and strength.
but at the same time we utter lies and engage in dishonest trade, we yield to the temptations of the flesh, we degrade people in anger, we plot evil schemes in our minds against the people we hate, we destroy the land we have been blessed by our lack of concern for the environment, we ignore the promptings of the Holy Spirit and Christ’s commandments of love, we hold long-lasting grudges against our parents for their mistakes, we blame others for our failures, and so forth.
“Jesus Christ demands that His disciple does not allow even the slightest trace of resentment in his heart when faced with tyranny and injustice.” — My Utmost For His Highest
my Lord God Almighty!
i have just realized that Christ has sent us on a mission so impossible that we need to be supernatural or extraterrestrial to meet His demands. it just cannot be done.
however from the reading today we find that, “He has done the super-natural work in us. Jesus Christ has changed my nature by putting His own nature in me. only one thing will bear the strain, and that is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ Himself— a relationship that has been examined, purified, and tested until only one purpose remains and I can truly say, “I am here for God to send me where He will.”
my Lord, forgive me again for being so human. forgive me my iniquities and transgressions. increase my faith and love for You.
thank You, dear God, for my life, my family, my work, and my friends. thank You for all that is bright and beautiful, and all the comforts we have. thank You for the wonderful world we live in. help me to be true to my faith in You, dear Jesus, and to live that faith in action. draw me closer to You, deepen my relationship with You by the grace of the Holy Spirit until it is You who lives in me. amen.
