September 13, Tuesday: After Surrender — Then What?

even if nothing is going right, the last thing we want to do is give up control.  but that is precisely what God asks of us:  S U R R E N D E R.

not surrender as in defeat but surrender to Him in full confidence and then, rejoice!

we say we trust God but when it comes to running our lives, we hold tight to the steering wheel despite the fact that we have been faring quite poorly. why?  because deep inside we may not believe that He can actually do a better job… or that He really cares to bother with our lives… or that He will deliver on time.   (by the time He does, the man in intensive care unit will probably have been dead.)

but what God is really asking is for us “to surrender not just our external life but our will — and once that is done, our surrender is complete.”  (My Utmost For His Highest)

Christ’s call for us to come to Him is actually a call to our will.  when we feel weak, insecure, or burdened, we come to Him and surrender our will so He can just take over our lives and allow the remainder of the day to flow in the way He deems best.  not according to our stubborn will but His will…  and, He will give us rest.

we surrender because God is not just all good, wise, and powerful but because He holds the Master Plan of our lives.  He knows the future.    we surrender because He knows what is best for us and has our best interests at heart.

we commit to taking and embracing the present moment as His perfect will for us. “Whatever your circumstances may be, Jesus is totally sufficient (see 2 Corinthians 12:9 and (Philippians 4:19).”

“And after you surrender— then what? Your entire life should be characterized by an eagerness to maintain unbroken fellowship and oneness with God.” ( My Utmost For His Highest)

“Dear Lord, i have asked You before and i am asking You again.  step into my life and look after my circumstances, my needs, and my direction…  my children and their families, my friends and their families.  if there is anyone in greater need, i humbly ask that you grant him/her the grace to entrust everything to Your loving and perfect will, so that all will unfold without struggle and be in perfect harmony with Your plan. amen.”
