“the process of sanctification requires our coming to the place of death… the Spirit of God will strip me down until there is nothing left but my simple naked self. once there, He will immediately sanctify me completely and my life will be free from being determined and persistent about anything else but God.” — My Utmost For His Highest
without meaning any disrespect to God watching, i cannot begin to imagine how many of us can ever achieve the state of holiness in this imperfect and materialistic world where all temptations to sin lurk in every corner. let’s face it. the gap from where we are right now to the level of spiritual development God desires for us, which is our sanctification, is nothing less than abysmal.
but the heartening news is, the work of our sanctification is not supposed to happen through our own efforts but is done by the Word and the Holy Spirit. meaning, we can never hope to be sanctified without the help and the grace of the Holy Spirit.
our part is to learn and understand the teachings of Jesus by heart… to find out what it is God wants exactly to do with us… and to surrender our all (past, present, and future) to Him in perfect trust and humility.
knowing this, we pray that the Holy Spirit works in us the fruits of His Spirit, namely: love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control… and change us forever.
nothing is impossible with God if we just believe.
“oh my Lord, i long for the day when i will be so much into You and Your ways that Your love will radiate through my countenance! at the moment, i cannot see that happening. forgive me my trespasses and grant me a pure and humble heart, mind, and spirit. let not the ways and wiles of the world draw me instead. encourage me, dear Lord, when i feel hopeless and discouraged in my spiritual development. i believe not in myself, but only in Your power and grace. You are all i need. i offer myself and all to You to sanctify us, please. i love You, sweet Jesus.”
