“Our Lord never insists on having authority over us… But once His life has been created in me through His redemption, I instantly recognize His right to absolute authority over me. Then He is easily Lord of our life, and we live in adoration of Him from morning till night.” — My Utmost For His Highest
God has absolute authority over us, over everything present in this universe, over heaven and earth. He can very well exercise it without restraint whenever He pleases but He never insists that we obey Him. He would rather see that happen out of immense love, respect, and gratitude for Him– a natural reaction borne not out of duty and fear but solely out of deep affection and purely a matter of trust.
a person saved by His grace will be transformed by the renewing of his heart and mind, and be constantly in tune with God’s word.
when we allow Christ to control our thoughts, we prevent sin from taking control of our lives. when we know what is good, acceptable, and the perfect will of the Lord by the grace of the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, our own conscience will convict us when we succumb to temptation or when we ponder or engage in anything sinful.
if we submit our minds entirely to Christ, give up our selfish ways in all aspects, and allow His Holy Spirit to transform us thoroughly, obedience becomes automatic. and we will not even think of doing things as tasks and sacrifices. we will be driven by love, respect, and gratitude for Him.
“oh my Lord God, what a long way i still have to go in submitting my heart and mind to You. i find myself being overtaken by ugly thoughts of pride, selfishness, and fear now and then. sweet Jesus, rescue me and make me totally Yours. amen.”
