Sunday, July 17: The Miracle of Belief

“belief in Jesus is a miracle produced only by the effectiveness of redemption, not by impressive speech, nor by wooing and persuading, but only by the sheer unaided power of God.” —  My Utmost For His Highest

in as much as good and effective preachers are a great help in interpreting the gospel, putting some sense into our heads,  and inspiring us to correct ourselves for as long as we can remember, they really do not bring about for us the gift of redemption.  it is, in truth, brought about only by the grace of the Holy Spirit, the will of the Father, and the sacrifice and death of our Lord.

and, from this redemption, we come to believe.

“my Lord, what an amazing day You blessed us with today!  thanks heaps for the sun and the fun i had with the family at the beach, a day of boating and swimming, delicious food, and laughter!  what more could i ask?  but on the way home, you scared most of us as huge waves tossed our boat which seemed forever.  my little grandson cried out of fear.  but Lord, i knew with all my might that You held us firmly in the palm of Your hand.

thank You very much for this faith i have in You. You are the best, dear Lord.”
