Monday, July 4: One of God’s Great Don’ts

“We tend to think that a little anxiety and worry are simply an indication of how wise we really are, yet it is actually a much better indication of just how wicked we are. Fretting rises from our determination to have our own way.  Have you been propping up that foolish soul of yours with the idea that your circumstances are too much for God to handle?”  —  My Utmost For His Highest

life sends us a lot of reasons to worry–  landslides, flash floods, road accidents, kidnapping, murder, rape, cyber sex, marriage on the rocks, feud in the family, corruption, graft… an ailing uncle in intensive care unit, a cousin with terminal cancer…   on and on the list goes.

yet, today’s reading reminds us of one of God’s Great Don’ts:  Do not Fret…  for “resting in the Lord is not dependent on your external circumstances at all, but on your relationship with God Himself…”

a personal and intimate relationship with Christ that is based on nothing but deep mutual love and extreme trust is practically the answer to all our worries.  because of the nature of whom we rely on, we become fearless.

“my Lord God, thank You for this new attitude i have now when difficulties come my way.  You have my back, so there is nothing indeed to fret about.  i love You, my sweet Jesus.”
